Jail Facility Overview in Lexington County

The Lexington County Detention Center is the primary jail facility in Lexington County and is managed and run by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office. It houses both male and female adult offenders, including pre-trial detainees and sentenced offenders.

It is a multi-structure facility with 3 major structures and a 599-inmate capacity. According to the County Sheriff’s 2024 Annual Report, the optimal maximum capacity for the county detention center is 420. However, the facility is often overcrowded. It recorded a daily population of up to 641 inmates in 2024. The Lexington County detention center also provides temporary housing for pretrial federal inmates to generate revenue to help with the operational costs at the facility.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Lexington County Jail?

Just like other correctional facilities across the US, inmates at the Lexington County Detention Center are not allowed to receive cash while in holding. Inmates purchase items like toiletries, paper to write mail, snacks, and underwear using money deposited into their inmate account.

Residents of Lexington County can send money to an inmate by money order (mail), at the kiosks in the Lobby of the detention center, or online using commissary services provided by the County. Deposits are restricted to $140 daily. The lobby kiosks are available from 09:00 AM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 09:00 AM to 04:00 on weekends.

Lexington County Visitation Rules and Schedules

Visitors must present their government-issued identification (state or federal) or a valid student identification card. Visitors must also arrive at least 15 minutes before their scheduled visiting time. Only two adults will be permitted to visit an inmate at one time. An adult must accompany children between the ages of 12 and 17, while children below 12 years are not allowed in-person visits but can get on a scheduled video call.

Visitors must comply with the facility’s dress code: shorts, tight or revealing clothing is deemed inappropriate. Visitors must also wear shoes and socks. Visitors may be denied from bringing in contraband items (food, cell phones, cigarettes). Please remember that visitation is a privilege and may be suspended or withdrawn.
